BRIDGES is the theme of the inaugural art exhibition of CommunityArtsWork. The September - December 2009 exhibition will be held in the Holtzman Alumni Center at Virginia Tech. The focus on bridges-both physical and metaphysical-symbolizes connection and transition. Bridges connect town and gown, past and future, linking destinies and transforming challenges into opportunities. This theme reflects CommunityArtsWork's commitment to new forms of expression in the arts as well as the active collaboration and exchange among established and emerging artists, arts advocates, and campus-community partners who see the arts and humanities as vital for understanding our global society and as a rewarding vocational or avocational pathway.
T. Truman Capone is a professor and director of the School of Visual Arts at Virginia Tech. His studio work focuses on assemblages and collages that combine traditional, classical, tactile, and digital media. His aesthetic catalyzes a rejuvenated life for found materials and objects, harvesting emotional, historical, spiritual, and mythical elements from objects, rendering layered dimensions of emotion and meaning that go beyond the material. His work explores esoteric dimensions of dialog inspired by historical processes, the evolution of typography, artifacts, and biographical metaphors. His work has been displayed in juried and invitational exhibitions, both nationally and around the world and he is active in several professional organizations.
